Beaverton 125 Happenings (Current News)

Thank you to everyone who attended our Community Appreciation and Volunteer Recognition event it was a pleasure to be able to celebrate our success with those who supported our efforts!

We are pleased to announce Jack Little as the first recipient of the Harold Lodwick Citizenship Award! We cannot think of anyone more deserving! Congratulations Jack! Jack decided to donate the $2000 to the Beaverton Lion's Club towards improving the community facilities for the "youngsters" as Jack put it. He felt this is what Harold would have wanted.

As of Friday, October 30th our office will no longer be manned on a regular basis. If you wish to contact us please email beaverton125@live.com.

We will be having our Annual General Meeting Wednesday, January 27th at 7:30 pm in the Community Meeting Room at the Beaverton Town Hall. There will be a general meeting on Wednesday, November 25th at 7:30 pm in the Committee Meeting Room at the Beaverton Town Hall to inform committee members of changes to be presented at the AGM.

Harold Lodwick Citizenship Award Update

A subcommittee of the Beaverton Special Events committee has been formed and will be known as the Awards Committee. Its’ purpose is to develop, promote and administer the Harold Lodwick Citizenship Award.

This award was initiated to recognize the outstanding contributions of Harold Lodwick to this community and will be presented to “a citizen of Beaverton or surrounding area who has demonstrated the spirit of volunteerism and community pride that was so much a part of the life of Harold”.

The awards committee has been meeting to develop a terms of reference for determining the nomination process, the qualifications of the nominee and how and when all of this will happen on an annual basis. We do know that the first Harold Lodwick Citizenship Award will be announced at the Community Appreciation and Volunteer Recognition Event of October 24 at the Beaverton Town Hall and everyone is invited to join us in this special announcement.

The awards committee will be accepting donations throughout the year and if you and a group of friends or colleagues or a community group want to hold a fundraising event with proceeds going to this award we would be happy to accept the donation. The awards committee will not be doing active fundraising for this award and will rely on personal, community and business donations to ensure that this award will last in perpetuity.

Please watch for updates on this award and remember that you can help by sending or taking your donation in to the Beaverton 125 office at the Beaverton Town Hall, Box 125 Beaverton ON , L0K 1A0 or call 426-7738. Water Bottles

Our newest fundraiser is the environmentally friendly and BPA free water bottles with our logo. They look great with everything as they are stainless steel and they convenient for running, biking and many other sports as they clip onto anything. The best part is they are ONLY $10! Available at SmallMART or our office in the Beaverton Town Hall.

Murals

BOOKLETS with information on the murals are available at various locations across town including: the Library, Maxine's Fashions, Shirley's Country Clutter, SmallMART, Jingles, Ben's Pharmacy, and our office in the Beaverton Town Hall.

Two sets of wall murals are finished! They would not be possible without the generous support of The Ontario Trillium Foundation, Ben's Pharmacy, and The Foster Hewitt Foundation!

Artist, James Gain has created a montage of historic buildings which is on the side of Ben’s Pharmacy.

Robert Bastarche has highlighted 12 portraits of well-known Beavertonians on The Strand Theatre and a mural depicting the history of the Strand Projector and the first films ever shown in Canada . The following are the names of historically significant people from Beaverton chosen by an anonymous committee:
